Recycled Street Pavement Project To Begin
The City of Garden Grove's Public Works Department will be conducting a unique, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective, street paving project on four streets simultaneously, from mid-May to mid-June, 2012. The affected streets are: Westminster Avenue, from Bushard Avenue to Brookhurst Street; Brookhurst Street, from Hazard to Westminster Avenues; Chapman Avenue, from Ninth (9th) to West Streets; Trask Avenue, from Harbor Boulevard to the SR22 Freeway onramp. Normal construction hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Using the old asphalt, mixed with base material and cement to create a new stabilized road base, the cost-effective, recycled pavement will be stronger, resulting in a longer life expectancy and lower maintenance costs. The use of recycled materials can reduce costs by up to 25%.
Affected streets will be clearly posted with signage, and one lane will be kept open for traffic, although access may be limited for short periods of time.
Parking will not be permitted on streets during construction activities. "Temporary No Parking" signs will be posted 24 hours prior to all phases of work. Residents and businesses in the affected areas were given advance notice of the project.
For more information about the pavement project, please call Assistant Engineer, Kamyar Dibaj at (714) 741-5186. |

Free Electronic Waste Recycling Event
On May 19 and 20th, Patton's Outdoor Science School Committee will
sponsor a free electronic waste event at 6861 Santa Rita Avenue. Greenview Resource Management will assist with the collection, recycling, and proper disposal of the materials. This event will help provide scholarships to 6th graders at Patton School who may need assistance to attend Outdoor Science School.
This event is a free service to California residents and businesses to properly get rid of their unwanted electronic products. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, many easily recycled materials are still thrown away. Only 10% - 15% of e-waste is currently properly dismantled or recycled, and demand for these materials has never been greater.
Every little bit helps! Please come show your support for our schools and a cleaner environment by diverting e-waste away from our city and landfills. E-waste includes electronic products or devices, such as computer monitors, televisions, PC systems, printers, home entertainment systems, copiers, and fax machines that have reached their useful end, whether in working condition or not. For more detailed information on the event, or qualified e-waste products, please contact (562) 912-2855 or info@greenviewresource.com. |
